From The Indianapolis News, Monday, January 31: Government-owned automobile mail service will begin in the city tomorrow, Tuesday, February 1. When the nine new brightly painted red motor cars are placed in service, Indianapolis will become the sixth city in the United States to have such a system. Mail service will be materially improved in Indianapolis with the addition of the automobiles. The new machines will make afternoon collections from outlying substations, thereby assuring a much earlier delivery of this mail. The automobiles will also be used in the delivery of parcel post items and in the bulk delivery of letter mail to large concerns. The automobile drivers are Fay J. Adams, Milton E. Behymer, Leon E. Shannon, Braddick M. Tacoma, Joseph E. Williams, Paul E. Tegarden, Joseph P. Bauer, Roy L. Beal, and F. Kennelly Rafert.
