• The Fall Creek Greenway extension has a schedule for construction. The project would connect the Geist area to Fort Harrison (and the rest of the Indy trail network). Estimates for completion are to finalize plans in October 2026, with bidding open for construction in November. Construction can begin in the 1st quarter of 2027, and completion is expected by the 3rd quarter of 2028 if there is a bid. When completed, it will be the longest greenway in Indianapolis/Marion County.
• Community Hospital East will celebrate it’s 70th Anniversary on Thursday, Aug. 6 from 5-8 p.m. in the Community Hospital East Breezeway. There will be historical displays and memorabilia, refreshments, live music and more.
• There will be a Washington Square Vision Plan meeting on Monday, Aug. 3 at the Warren Central Schools Administrative Building at 975 N. Post Rd. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the presentation begins at 6 p.m. This is a chance for the community to reshape the mall to help revitalize the far eastside.
• The Cat Video Fest begins Friday, Aug. 7 at Kan-Kan Cinema, 1258 Windsor St., at 7:15 p.m., and continuing Aug. 8-9, 11-13. The films are the latest and best cat videos culled from submissions, animations, and more. Admission is $12, and you should get tickets online at kankanindy.com/events/catvideofest2026 as soon as possible. These shows sell out pretty fast! A portion of ticket sales go to support FACE clinic.
• On Monday, Aug. 3 from 6-7 p.m. at the Irvington branch library, there will be a drop-in Type-In where you can try out a good old-fashioned typewriter. This month’s prompt will be the Dog Days of Summer. The library is located at 10 S. Audubon.
• Don’t forget about the Irvington Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social on Sunday, Aug. 2 at the Bona Thompson, 5350 University Ave. from 1-4 p.m. Sundae’s ice cream will be available for purchase, as well as from Wild Boar BBQ food truck. Proceeds go to support the IHS and its programs.
• Garfield Park Conservatory is holding a visitor appreciation day on Sunday, Aug. 2 from 1-5 p.m. with free admission all day. The conservatory is located at 2505 Conservatory Dr. It really is a magical place with tropical plants and waterfalls.
• The City of Lawrence will hold a Shred-It day on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. hosted by Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. It will be held at Lawrence Community Park, 5301 N. Franklin Rd. There will be a $5 donation per shredding box, and monitors and TVs are $20.
• National Night Out is on Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 5-8 p.m., and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 695 Justice Way will feature family activities and interactions with deputies. This is a night for neighbors to get together socially, perhaps with a gathering, to send a message that crime won’t be tolerated in our streets. Keep your porch light on all night!
