Irvington Organization Awarded Monumental Awards

INDIANAPOLIS — The Irvington Development Organization (IDO) has been recognized among the Top 3 recipients of the Monumental Public Art Award, earning two trophies at this year’s Monumental Awards, held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis on Oct. 22.
Presented annually by Citizens Energy Group, the Monumental Awards celebrate individuals, businesses, and organizations that contribute to excellence in architecture, construction, engineering, innovative reuse, interior design, landscape architecture, neighborhood revitalization, public art, and real estate development throughout the Indianapolis region.
IDO won the Achievement Award for Public Art for the mural “Madge’s Vision” on Washington St, created by local artist Andrea Light. The artwork represents Madge Oberholter’s role in taking down the Klan in Indiana and her courage on the 100th anniversary of her death.
The Monumental Awards highlight projects that elevate the quality and character of Central Indiana through creativity, design, and community impact. IDO’s recognition underscores its ongoing efforts to weave storytelling, public art, and preservation into the fabric of Irvington’s identity.
Looking ahead, IDO is focusing on its next major initiative — the Helene Hibben Art Park, planned for the corner of Washington Street and Ritter Avenue. The organization recently received Cultural District funding, with matching funds provided by the Historic Irvington Community Council.
In addition, IDO was awarded a grant from the Indiana Association of Realtors to support early planning and community engagement for the Art Park. This funding has helped lay the groundwork for design concepts, stakeholder collaboration, and the long-term vision of the space as a public art destination and community gathering point.
Other projects that won awards included Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, the Indianapolis Public Library Glendale Branch, and the Damien Center.
