Beech Grove Breaks Ground on New Police Station

BEECH GROVE — The City of Beech Grove broke ground on its new police station on Friday, April 1.
The new police station will be located at the corner of Emerson Ave. and Main St., a key corridor along Emerson Ave. and a major gateway into the city. The entire parcel where the station will be built encompasses a city block. The new, state-of-the-art facility will replace Beech Grove’s current station at 340 E. Churchman Ave., which was built in 1973 and operates with original equipment.
At completion, the new police station will house Beech Grove’s police department and civilian personnel, the city court, and will offer meeting space to community groups and organizations, further strengthening ties between citizens and law enforcement.
The City anticipates investing approximately $6.4 million to build the approximately 15,000 square foot police station. Meyer Najem Construction has been selected as the general contractor for the project.
“The new police station represents a once in a generation investment in public safety in Beech Grove,” said Mayor Dennis Buckley, “and further supports our commitment to public safety. Since 2013, we have increased base officer pay, take home cars and personal safety equipment, while also dedicating other resources to ensure our police officers have everything they need to keep our community safe.”
The new police station will be named in honor of longtime Beech Grove Mayor J. Warner Wiley, who served as police chief from 1968-1978. His family continues to live in Beech Grove, and will give remarks during the groundbreaking.
