Indiana Pacers Update

The loss of Victor Oladipo for the season is a shame especially for the fans. No. 4 was our star and a very exciting player to watch and a hero to the young fans. However, do not look for the home boys to fold up and disappear. At this moment the team is 32-17 and in 3rd place in the NBA East. That record is 6th best among the 30 NBA teams. Myles Turner, Bojan Bogdanovic, Darren Collison, Thaddeus Young, and the rest are playing solid basketball. Head Coach Nate McMillan will keep this team on the road to a playoff spot. Of course, the playoffs are when the real season begins. So the time to sweat is when the playoffs begin.

NBA Update

The Golden State Warriors are once again the class of the league. Their 36-14 record, while not a runaway, still leads the West and the whole NBA. The Milwaukee Bucks are on top in the East with a 35-13 record. The Toronto Raptors have actually won the most games with 37 but their 15 losses bring down their winning percentage and make them 2nd in the East.
As expected, the Cleveland Cavaliers, without LeBron James, have fallen into a dark pit. Their 10-41 record is the worst in the NBA. The surprise team is the LA Lakers — surprisingly mediocre. With the addition of LeBron James the team was supposed to be a powerhouse, but with clashing egos and injuries, the team is right now just an also-ran. They just might not make the playoffs. There is still a ways to go but the season is in its second half and the playoffs will be here before you know it.

The NFL Pro Bowl

The NFL Pro Bowl was played last Sunday in case you hadn’t noticed. The ALC Stars beat the NFC 26-7 and the NFC was very nearly shut out as if it mattered. There was a noticeable lack of enthusiasm among the players. A cold, soaking rain may have been responsible for that. Everybody looked miserable. The move to Miami was not popular with players and coaches. In Hawaii the weather was always great and fun for everybody. There were complaints about the lack of effort by many of the players, particularly wide receivers, but it’s hard to ask a player to risk bodily injury and maybe even an end to a career for a meaningless game.
The media has tried to play up this game up as an important part of the NFL post season but it is a dinosaur on its last legs. Its time to stick a fork in it and declare it done.

The Ah, Super Bowl

So the Super Bowl is this Sunday and it’s between the Rams and the Other Team. Despite the media attempts to identify this particular match as being a pivotal point in the history of human civilization, I myself just can’t imagine being any less interested. Maybe if it was the Cowboys playing the -ah- other team. If it wasn’t for the commercials, I wouldn’t consider watching it.
