53rd Annual Benton House Tour of Homes Sept. 20

IRVINGTON — The Benton House Association will present its annual Benton House Tour of Homes and Classy Car Show on Sunday, September 20 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Celebrating its 53rd year, this year’s tour features many historical homes and landmarks, showcasing the rich history and architectural diversity of the Irvington community.  Tickets are $20 in advance at thebentonhouse.org Web site, or $25 the day of the tour. Proceeds from the tour provide funds for the upkeep of the historic home and its grounds at 312 S. Downey Ave.
The Classy Car Show will be at the home, and cars must arrive by 11:30 a.m. Registration is $10, and cars will compete for a variety of awards at 3 p.m. Every participant in the car show will receive a free ticket to the Home Tour. For more information, e-mail carshow@thebentonhouse.org. There will also be live music and food for purchase on the grounds.
Some beautiful and unique homes are on the tour this year, and the owners will be on hand to talk about the history of the home and renovations. Many Irvington homes have rich histories and interesting former owners that add to the charm. From bungalows to “painted ladies,” Irvington has a great variety of home styles.
The Benton House was built in 1873, and is a magnificent example of French Mansard design. Homes on the tour this year promise to be a blend of many styles in the neighborhood, and landmarks that make Irvington unique in the city. The house will be open for tour-goers.
