The Indiana Branch of the American Jewish Relief Committee was organized yesterday at a meeting of Jewish citizens held at the Indianapolis Club, 2314 N. Meridian St. Officers named are: chairman, Samuel E. Rauh; vice chairman, Gustave A. Efroymson; secretary, Ralph Bamberger; and treasurer, Joseph Wineman. The state has been divided into eleven districts for canvassing purposes. Pledges of more than $5,000 (2014: $107,159.24) were made at the meeting toward the relief of the estimated 3,000,000 Jews in Poland, Galicia, Palestine, and elsewhere in the theaters of war who are in dire need of aid since hostilities began. The need is so vast and the number of Jewish victims so great that President Wilson has designated a general appeal this Thursday “Jewish Relief Day” for donations to the Red Cross.
