Camomile leaves for making tea, a cold remedy, come from Germany and the wholesale price is now 35ȼ (2014: $8.07) an ounce; cod liver oil comes from Norway and has doubled in price to $80 (2014: $1,844.85) a barrel wholesale. A few months ago, quinine was 25ȼ (2014: $5.77) an ounce; it is now $2.35 (2014: $54.29) an ounce. Carbolic acid has gone up 1000%. Glycerin has gone up in price 300% in the last few weeks because of its enormous demand in the manufacture of explosives.
