From The Indianapolis Star, Monday, August 30, 1915: Three thousand German-American citizens residing in Indianapolis pledged anew their support to the United States and protested against alleged insinuations of disloyalty toward this country at the annual celebration of German Day at Germania Park yesterday. Standing in the rain beneath a canopy of umbrellas, the crowd heard Rev. J. Christian Hansen, pastor of St. Paul’s German Evangelical Church, Indianapolis, declare that persons of German descent now residing in this country have always been loyal to the United Sates and at no time in the nation’s history have they failed to do their part in promoting the country’s welfare. It was only natural and proper that they have a kindly feeling toward the Fatherland, but he asserted this support has not in any way interfered with their proper attitude toward America.
