IMPD Officer Receives TOP COP Award

INDIANAPOLIS—Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Officer Greg Milburn has been awarded the TOP COPS Awards in Indiana by The National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO). TOP COPS are nominated by fellow officers. An independent Awards Selection Committee comprised of national law enforcement representatives select, from hundreds of nominations, one TOP COP case from each of the 50 States and U.S. territories. Officers from the top ten cases have been selected as the 2015 TOP COPS.
Officer Milburn is a 13 year veteran of IMPD, and worked his entire career serving the Brightwood community. On May 30th, 2014 Officer Gregory Milburn was shot in the line of duty responding to a 911 call at 22nd St. and Dearborn. Milburn returned fire on the suspect even after being shot in the abdomen. Despite being wounded, Officer Milburn maintained his position covering the front of the house until assisting officers demanded he relinquish his position and get medical attention. When the scene was secured, investigators responded and learned the deceased shooter, Quintico Goolsby, had killed two women inside the home just prior to Officer Milburn arriving on the scene. Milburn was badly wounded, but was saved from graver injuries thanks to his ballistics vest.
After the incident, Officer Milburn was lauded by both the department and neighborhood organizations for his dedication to duty, bravery, and professionalism. Residents of Brightwood noted seeing Officer Milburn routinely patrolling their neighborhoods and alleys. He has been described as “the best of the best”. In addition to being thanked by community groups, Officer Milburn received the Medal of Bravery and Purple Heart medals from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
The Awards Dinner was held in Washington, D.C. on May 12.
