From The Indianapolis Times, Monday, August 24, 1914: Federal Department of Justice investigators looking into food prices in Indianapolis sent letters to more than 1,000 retail grocers Saturday asking the price range from August 1 to 21 of flour, sugar, and other commodities, and whether or not they had received any information concerning speculation in the manipulation of any of the products mentioned in the letter. An examination of about 30 replies received this morning in answer to the inquiry show so far there apparently had not been much fluctuation of prices except upon sugar. It is planned to keep the pressure on the investigation of the market to prevent any inflation of prices due to the European War. This market is about normal, and it is said the investigation by the government have forced prices down.
