• Heidelberg Haus Cafe and Bakery on Pendleton Pike recently celebrated 45 years in our community, and its founder, Juergen Jungbauer immigrated here 50 years ago. Congratulations and thank you for creating such an iconic eatery on the east side!
• The West Baden Angels exhibit opening reception attracted a big turnout on an iffy weather day. This extraordinary exhibit is part of the permanent exhibits at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center. Congratulations to the Irvington Historical Society and everyone who helped put these wonderful exhibit together.
• The Bledsoe Family in Irvington had part of their life-sized Nativity scene stolen from their yard. Some grinches stole Jesus, Mary, and a Wise Man. If you have any leads on the thieves, please contact the police.
• Author Marilyn Ferrell will be signing copies of her book The Faded Rose at Bookmamas on Dec. 15 from 1-3 p.m. Ferrell is a native of Indianapolis. Bookmamas is located at 9 Johnson Ave.
• A wonderful Indianapolis holiday tradition continues with the 6th annual Conservatory Crossing at Garfield Park winter wonderland. Garfield Park Conservatory is decked out in its holiday best with a brilliant display of poinsettias and enjoy running model trains, with a train village and thousands of twinkling lights. Regular Conservatory hours are Mon. – Sat. 10-5 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. Open extended hours until 8 p.m. before Christmas on Dec. 19, 20 and 21, and after Christmas on Dec. 27 & 28 – the best time to see the lights! Show Admission is $3/person, $8/family w/2 adult max.
• Did you know Hancock Regional Hospital has many support groups for various medical conditions? They have an Alzheimer’s support group, a group for COPD sufferers, bariatric support, cancer support groups, diabetes groups, and much more. Most meetings are held at the hospital, 801 N. State St. in Greenfield. Visit www.hancockregionalhospital.org for more information and phone numbers, plus registration fees.
• A friendly reminder: If you don’t clear the ice and snow from the sidewalks in front of your home or business, people WILL walk in the street and risk getting hit by cars. Please be a courteous citizen and take care of the sidewalk in front of your home, as well as your walkways.
In addition, if you’re going to walk in the street after dusk, do NOT wear dark colors! There have been a lot of near-misses Sunset is at 5:20 p.m. or so, and rush hour commuters can’t see you. The days will get longer after Dec. 21.
• There’s still time to donate toys to Gaia Works. Drop off unwrapped toys at the Weekly View office, 195 N. Shortridge Rd., Suite D, or at Texas Roadhouse on Shadeland Ave. Gaia Works will wrap and distribute the toys to needy families in the community. Thank you for your generosity!
