From The Indianapolis News, Friday, September 12, 1913: At a luncheon today, a plan was announced to create a $250,000 (2013: $5,871,994.95) building fund for Methodist Hospital. Although the hospital bears a denominational name, it recognizes no creeds in its operations or patient treatment, and from the beginning it has received patients without question of their ability to pay. This policy has prevented the hospital from being self-supporting. Currently, a pavilion is under construction to make sure that the hospital has enough beds at any time to care for the maximum number of patients, and a portion of the funds raised will be used to complete this highly important structure and open it for use this winter. The fund raising campaign will have workers canvass the city’s neighborhoods and go out into the state for contributions.
