• We’re blessed with terrific local writers and columnists who are involved in their communities. Besides their contributions to this paper, they are on boards, volunteer for special events, and promote the improvement of the area. You are the best!
• Thanks to our loyal readers and advertisers for donations of kitty food to the Weekly View’s stray/feral cats. Otis, Marmalade, Soft Kitty and the other cats appreciate it. And thank you to our great landlord, Lou Matthews, who has allowed us to put up a shelter for the kitties on his property.
• Irvingtonians, save the date: April 6. Leaders are working on holding a special clean-up in the IRV a week prior to the Great Indy Clean-Up. More details will come as they are made available.
• Students, faculty and staff of Little Flower Catholic School have been saving pop-top tabs since 2007 to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana. In December, they reached their goal of one million tabs, and Ronald McDonald himself came to the school on January 25 to present them with their special “Collect-A-Million” Club plaque.
• Congratulations to the folks working so hard to save the Rivoli Theatre on East 10th St. They just received a grant from the city to repair the roof, and have been scheduling fundraisers to keep the momentum going. On March 2 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., they will be holding a sale at the Chase Near East Legacy Center with a percentage of vendor sales going to benefit the theatre.
• A shout-out to the hard-working people who have been adopting curbs and spending nice days outside picking up trash from out streets. While you might not think it make a difference, it DOES!
• Did you know there is an organization working to help business owners and residents on East Michigan Street from College Ave. to Sherman? The East Village Business Owners Association was formed in 2009, and meets the first Friday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to noon at 2050 E. Michigan St. Want to know more? They have a Facebook Page (East Village CDC), or you can call 317-353-8309 (e-mail eastvillagecdc@gmail.com).
• Want to help improve services at the Indianapolis Public Library? There will be a public forum with the Library’s CEO on Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Warren Branch, 9701 E. 21st St. Bring questions, ideas, and concerns.
