• There will be a Coffee with a Cop event on Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 2-3 p.m. at the Starbucks located at 2045 N. Shadeland Ave. This is a casual meet-up with local officers to give everyone a chance to get to know each other.
• Crafter’s Corner, a new community group for people who enjoy crafting and fellowship, will meet on the second Thursday of each month beginning Thursday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meetings will be held at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 2015 S. Arlington Ave. Participants are invited to bring and finish their own projects, learn hand quilting, create charitable crafts for children, help prepare craft materials for the Little Lambs preschool, and enjoy fellowship with others who share similar interests. • Due to Blue Line construction on Washington St. from State Ave. to Emerson Ave., motorists will be detoured for approximately 216 days, opening up around April 1, 2027. The detour uses Southeastern Ave. to English Ave. to Emerson. Bus Route 8 outbound will extend the detour onto State Ave. to E. New York St., then Rural St. to Washington St. All stops on Washington St. from Southeastern to Emerson will be closed. Yeah, we’re not happy about it either.
• The Indianapolis Public Library has more than just books and DVDs. All branches have free gun locks, lead screening kits, and a blood pressure hub with resources and contact information for follow-up care. What a great resource!
• The Pleasant Run Run returns to Irvington on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 7:30-10 a.m., including a Kids’ Dash. Starting at 30 N. Audubon, he course will include East Washington, around the golf course, down Arlington, around Ellenberger, and back into the heart of Irvington. There will be barriers, so expect some detours if you’re in the area.
• A celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Binford Farmers Market will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 8 a.m.-noon. at 6620 Northview Way, just off Binford near E. 65th St. at Northview Church. There will be promotions and specials from legacy and new vendors, with lots of fresh, healthy foods.
• Beech Grove residents can drop off recyclables on Saturday, Sept. 5 at City Hall, 806 Main St. from 9 a.m.-noon. They will accept appliances, metal, unused medicine, used syringes, eyeglasses, and hearing aids.
• The Phoenix Theatre will present Everybody’s Favorite Mother, a new work by James Still Sept. 3-20. The story is about early activist and leader of the gay rights movement Morty Manford and his mother Jeanne, who was one of the first parents to march with her son in a gay pride parade, starting a movement. • A new food box has been installed at Emerson Ave. Baptist Church on the corner of Emerson and New York. If you can, drop off non-perishable items to help keep it stocked for our neighbors.
