INDIANAPOLIS — “The Autumn Country” will be performed Friday-Sunday, Oct. 9-11 at the Brian Payne Theatre in District Theatre, 627 Massachusetts Ave. Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7:30 p.m., Sunday 4 p.m. General admission $28, seniors & students $18
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Festival 451indy, the grand opening of the Ray Bradbury Center’s new public spaces, and the 75th anniversary of The Illustrated Man, the Ray Bradbury Center presents an original theatrical work created especially for this milestone celebration.
“The Autumn Country,” an original theatrical production commissioned by Festival 451indy and premiering at The District Theatre. Emmy Award-winning actor and playwright Bill Oberst Jr., Indianapolis-based playwright, composer, and performer Ben Asaykwee, and Ray Bradbury Center Director Dr. Jason Aukerman will collaborate to create an intimate new stage experience drawing on The Illustrated Man and Bradbury’s short fiction.
Created as a series of interconnected theatrical vignettes, the production embraces the intimacy of the black box: minimal staging, a handful of performers, and language powerful enough to conjure entire worlds.
As a bonus on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. after the performance, Ben Asaykwee will have a book launch of his new work, Grave Engravings: a somewhat small, sorrowful selections of pallid poetry and posthumous prose.
