• The IU football team did it again, squashing the Oregon Ducks 56-22 in the Peach Bowl. They will go on to play The Miami Hurricanes on Monday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on ESPN, and is streaming live on many apps. Go Hoosiers!
• There will be open houses on the Marion County Land Use Plan Update. Neighbors have been key in helping shape this plan, which plays a vital role in determining the type of development that residents may see in their communities. The next open houses will be on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at West Perry Branch Library, 6650 S. Harding, from 6:30–8 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 2  at Pike Branch Library, 6525 Zionville Rd., from 6:30–8 p.m.
• The Snow Buddies Indy program in Indianapolis is off to a great start! So far, 82 homes requested assistance, and 80 volunteer signed up, and 55 homes were successfully matched with a volunteer. • Get a behind-the-scenes look at how the Lawrence Police Department serves the community during an 11-week program that includes hands-on learning, weekly classes, and a ride-along with an LPD officer. The Citizens Academy is focused on education and partnership — not law enforcement authority. Visit www.cityoflawrence.org/ to download an application. Applications are open until Feb. 13. You must be 21 or older. Classes will be held on Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. starting on March 5. Classes will be held at 5150 N. Post Rd.
• The Pyramid of Enlightenment will have a psychic fair on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 25 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at 8117 E. Washington St. Admission is $5, with readings $20 (cash) for 15 minute readings. Walk-ins only.
• The Eagles Lodge Beech Grove, 712 Main St. Beech Grove, will host Bodacious Classic Hits on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. Come on out and listen to some great music!
• On Friday. Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m., LoveNotes! Indy will be at the Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Ave. for an evening of real people telling real stories of romantic love, hosted by Haley Lawrence. A portion of the ticket proceeds of ticket sales and raffles will be donated to Soroptimist International of Indianapolis Metro to benefit low-income women who pursue education and service to their community. Tickets are $30 online at on Eventbrite.com, or cash at the door. All of the storytellers are local!
• The Irvington Community Council will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at Irvington Presbyterian Church, 55 Johnson Ave. Irvington residents are welcome to attend the public meeting.
• Our own Al Hunter will be hosting the Lincoln Assassination Tour on Saturday, March 14 at Camp Springs, Maryland. The chartered bus tour of the escape route taken by John Wilkes Booth as he fled from justice. The tour is all day, and you’ll have to get yourself to Maryland, and the tour costs $156.57.
