INDIANAPOLIS — The Eiteljorg Museum offers up some exciting new exhibits and events for October, beginning with the final days of the Quest for the West Art Exhibition. Stunning landscape paintings and sculptures — inspired by the American West — that were part of the recent record-breaking Quest for the West art sale remain on exhibit through Oct. 5 at the Eiteljorg, where visitors can enjoy them. The Quest for the West exhibition is included with regular museum admission.
On Monday, Oct. 13, there will be an Indigenous Peoples Day Community Celebration all day. Eiteljorg visitors can celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day with an event full of history, art and cultures. Native Pride Productions, an award-winning dance collective, will perform different types of powwow dances. Go on a curator-led guided tour of the Eiteljorg’s Native American Galleries and Voices from the Arctic exhibition, and participate in art-making activities. From Oct. 10-Nov. 2, there will be a Día de Muertos Community Art and Altar Exhibit. This exhibit features ornate ofrendas, or altars, created by local community organizations. Visitors can spend time with these artworks and add a note for a departed loved one to the community ofrenda. Entrance specifically to the altar exhibit in the museum’s Ruth Lilly Community Gallery is free.
On Saturday, Oct. 25 there will be a Día de Muertos Community Celebration with beautiful music, exciting dance performances and cultural presentations are highlights of the annual Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) Community Celebration, jointly organized by the Eiteljorg and Arte Mexicano en Indiana. The Eiteljorg Museum, located at 500 W. Washington, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
