Applause!: Sept. 26-Oct. 2

• The City-County Council meeting on Sept. 22 was packed with citizens against the proposed data center in Franklin Township. Representatives from Google pulled their petition to develop the property due to pressure from the community. Another data center development has been proposed for 2505 N. Sherman Dr. by Metrobloks, which would like to build on the former drive-in property that has been closed for decades.
• Pumpkin Palooza, the George W. Julian School 57 PTSA fundraiser will also have bricks from the old Brown Library available for sale this year. Each brick is just $2 and would be a great way to own a little bit of local history. The sale will take place Sunday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the school, 5435 E. Washington St. (corner of Ritter and Washington). There will be pumpkins for sale, face painting, photo booth, and fall fun as well.
• On Saturday Sept. 2, from noon-3 p.m. FIDO Indy’s Pet Supply Flea Market will be open The flea market will take place in the FIDO warehouse parking lot, 1505 N. Sherman Dr. They will have a variety of new and gently used pet supplies at wallet-friendly prices. All proceeds benefit FIDO Indy programs and this sale is open to anyone.
• Franciscan Health will host a number of flu and immunization clinics this fall on the south side of Indianapolis. The first clinic is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Chin Community of Indiana, located at 2524 East Stop 11 Road in Indianapolis from 1-4:30 p.m. The next clinic is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 at Chin United Pentecostal Church, located at 420 Lifegate Way in Beech Grove from 1-4:30 p.m. The final clinic in October is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 10 at the Indianapolis Public Library, located at 6650 South Harding Street in Indianapolis from 1-4:30 p.m. Immunizations are open to everyone — bring your ID and insurance card, if you have one.
• The Indianapolis Model Train Show will be held at Garfield Park on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Family Center, 2345 Pagoda Dr. There will be vendors selling toy and model trains, scenery, and 3D printed details, railroad related items, and artifacts. Admission is $5 and parking is free. This is a great event for hobbyists or people looking to get into the field.
• The Musical Swings at the Fort Ben Cultural Campus are back up and running. If you haven’t been on them, they are amazing. Each swing triggers notes from a classical instrument — the higher you swing, the higher the note. Participants can collaborate on creating chords and unique melodies. There are only three of them in the world, installed in Lawrence in 2021. Get out to 8950 Otis Ave. to enjoy a unique experience. It’s free.
• Beech Grove will host Music on Main 2025 on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 4-9 p.m. on Main St. The headliner will be Living Proof at 7 p.m. There will be art vendors, food trucks and lots of great music to enjoy.
