INDIANAPOLIS — Near East Area Renewal recently announced that the board of directors has appointed Emily Scott as its new Executive Director. Scott previously served as the Administrator of Community and Economic Development with the Department of Metropolitan Development at the City of Indianapolis. The announcement comes following the retirement of NEAR’s long-time leader, John Hay, earlier this year.
For more than a decade, Emily has been instrumental in community economic development in Indianapolis, including projects within NEAR’s neighborhoods. Since 2022, Emily has been responsible for the community and economic development division with the City of Indianapolis, overseeing deployment of various local economic incentives to advance large redevelopment projects and working on creative solutions to increase the volume of affordable housing units in projects around the city.
Prior to her time with the City of Indianapolis, Emily held positions with LISC Indianapolis and Riley Area Development Corporation supporting community economic development.
