INDIANAPOLIS – The City of Indianapolis will invest $16.5 million in city park playgrounds. Using funding from the American Rescue Plan, Indy Parks will use the funding to give playgrounds and hard courts much-needed makeovers. Renovations on a new playground could cost between $500,000 and $800,000, depending on the size and needed improvements. Hard courts used for basketball, tennis, and other activities could cost between $11,000 and $85,000.
Local parks that will benefit from the funding include Brookside Memorial Grove, Brookside, Clayton & LaSalle, Forest Manor, Pride, Washington, and Willard.
Indy Parks will use remaining American Rescue Plan funding to expand Wi-Fi capabilities in parks. Earlier this year, facilities at Frederick Douglass Park, Municipal Gardens, and Riverside Park were outfitted with wireless internet connections as part of a pilot program. The goal is to use this funding to outfit 20 additional parks with Wi-Fi. More details on these efforts will be available in the coming months.
