• Check out “Open Stage – Act 1” at Hampton Designs Studio & Shop (5515 E. Washington) on Sat., September 7 from 7-10 p.m. They will feature seven talented and fantastic performers, new to the Hampton Designs stage, Arachna Pop, Calico, Chloe Mirage Hall, Foxxxy M. Fierce, Shantele Edwards, & Skinny Packer. This event is hosted by Jenna Tull and features DJ, JFKreuz. Come cheer on your favorite performers as our audience will help us determine our winners. This is an all ages show – event is free.
• The Irving Circle Concert will be held Saturday, September 7 at 7 p.m. at the Circle on South Audubon. The Lightweights XL will be playing, the volunteers will be selling refreshments, and the Circle will be closed to through traffic. The Friends of Irving Circle put on a great show — and this will be the last one of the season.
• Sad to hear that the Antique Mall of Irvington will close its doors on Sunday, Oct. 27. For the last 22 years, this business believed in Irvington, and their dreams became a reality. There are great deals to be had as they sell down to the walls. Hours will be Thursday-Sunday from noon-5 p.m. Go in and thank Jack and Jill Lashbrook for helping the neighborhood find its feet!
• The First Friday Open Houses throughout the city and Beech Grove Main Street are gonna be LIT, as the kids say! The Harrison Center will feature landscapes in the main gallery, curated by Benny Sanders. Check out Naptown Stomp in the gym for swing dancing. The Harrison is on the corner of Delaware and 16th St. The Circle City Industrial Complex artists will also be open at Brookside Ave. just north of 10th St., featuring lots of artists and businesses on two floors on the building. They will be open Friday night from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 12-4 p.m. First Friday in the Grove takes place from 5:30-10:00 p.m. on Main St., and features several antique shops, Lori’s Folded Book Art will be featured at 623 Main St., plus there will be food, live music, antique shops, and lots more. Irvington First Friday Even if you think you’re not into art, come out and support local businesses.
• On Monday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Beech Grove Library, there will a genealogy program, where adults can meet with the Samuel Bryan Chapter of the D.A.R. for assistance in genealogy research using Ancestry.com and other online resources. The program will be held in the Technology Room. The library is located at 1102 Main St.
• Sunday, Sept. 8 from noon to 3 p..m. is the Irvington Farmer’s Market at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. September is always a great month for the market, as produce vendors have lots on the table, artisans will have their fall wares out, and everyone will be there. Check it out!
• Save the date for the Garfield Park Biergarten and Indy Story Slam at Garfield Park Conservatory Sunken Garden on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5:30 p.m. Visitors can enjoy live music, lawn games, and much more in the Sunken Gardens, plus a special Story Slam at 6 p.m. sponsored by Storytelling Arts of Indiana with the theme Neighborhood Stories. Admission is free. Food and drinks will be available for sale.
• Penrod Arts Fair will be held Saturday, Sept. 7 at Newfields, 4000 Michigan Rd. This year, it is combined with Indy Jazz Fest. Hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 presale at penrod.org or $20 per person at the gate.
