From The Indianapolis Star, Thursday, November 29: Parents, wives, sisters, sweethearts and brothers of Indiana artillerymen now overseas were told last night that it was their task to maintain the morale of men on the fighting line by writing sane letters and by sensible giving. This was the theme of an address by Lieut. Paxton Hibben of Irvington before the Cheer Society of the Rainbow Artillery in Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. He counseled the audience that socks, underwear and sweaters are important articles of clothing that soldiers always welcome. He also stressed the need for rubber and woolen items. Hibben advised keeping the men at the front in touch with news of activities in they were interested at home. “Don’t rave! Don’t indulge in glittering generalities about the war or in indictments of the Germans…be steadfast, sure, calm,” he said.
