Primary Voting 2024 on May 7

If you couldn’t tell from all the political ads on TV or gumming up your social media, this is an election year. The primary in-person voting will be held on Tuesday, May 7, from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. You must be a registered voter with a current Indiana State ID, such as a driver’s license or other official ID from the Dept. of Motor Vehicles. You will be asked if you want a Democrat or Republican ballot for the primary. You will only be able to vote for candidates from one party for the primary.
At stake are races for President of the United States, Indiana’s next governor, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, State Senator, State Representative, and other elected county officials. To see what will be on your specific ballot, go online to vote411.org and plug in your address to see the specific candidates.
All registered Marion County voters can vote at any Vote Center on Election Day, thanks to electronic Poll Pad technology. Marion County has many voting centers throughout the city. To see what is closest to you, visit https://vote.indy.gov/#vote-centers.
You cannot vote in an Indiana election without a valid government-issued ID that includes your photo, and the name on your ID must conform to your voter registration record — but conform doesn’t mean identical. For instance, if your full name is John David Doe, but your driver’s license says John D. Doe, this is acceptable. If you do not have a driver’s license, a passport is acceptable, or military ID. If you do not already have a valid ID, you can get one at the BMV free of charge. To get a photo ID card, you will need documentation proving your identity and lawful status in the country, a Social Security card, and two documents proving residency (utility bills or similar). To review what is needed for the card, visit the BMV Web site, in.gov/bmv
The winners of the primary will face off against each other on Tuesday, November 5.
