• The next Coffee with a Cop will be on May 1 from 3-4 p.m. at Neidhammer, 2104 E. Washington St. Meet with East District officers for an informal chat, and a time to voice concerns about problems in your neighborhood.
• The Crossroads Brass Band of Indiana invites everyone to their concert on Sunday, April 28 at 3 p.m. at Scecina High School, 5000 Nowland Ave. The band is made up of volunteer musicians who love to bring great music to the community.
• Landlocked Baking Company on the corner of Bonna and Audubon in Irvington, and Chalet Cafe and Wine Bar in Broad Ripple have closed their doors. They will be missed in the community. Strangebird, owned by the same parent company and located at Bonna and Audubon, will remain open.
• The 2024 Indy Film Fest is taking place April 24 – May 5 both online and in-person at the Kan-Kan Cinema and Living Room Theater in downtown Indianapolis. • Indianapolis City-County Councilor La Keisha Jackson won a caucus to fill the remaining term of the late state Sen. Jean Breaux. Breaux, an Indianapolis Democrat, died last month following a prolonged illness that took her away from the entire 2024 legislative session. Breaux’s name will remain on the May primary ballot, but a new nominee will be selected and will appear on the November general election ballot.
• Indiana Dept. of Transportation will begin ramp metering on I-465 between I-65 an I-70 during peak travel times. They are installing traffic signals on on-ramps indicating when vehicles can merge into traffic. The lights will be installed in the east and southeast quadrant first at the exchanges at South Emerson, Southeastern, Shadeland, Brookville Rd., and Washington St. For more information on the subject, visit in.gov/indot/traffic-engineering/ramp-metering/
• Franciscan Health will be hosting a LivingWorks Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) course on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 at Hornet Park Community Center, 5245 Hornet Ave. in Beech Grove. The course will run from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. both days for training in how to talk to individuals at risk for suicide. You must complete the two-day course to get certification. • The Benton House Book Sale is in July, but right now they are collecting gently used books for the sale. If you’ve been spring cleaning and need to thin out the old bookshelves, drop them off in the big deck box behind the house, 312 S. Downey.
