Applause!: Aug. 25-31

• The Spades Park Library will be closed on Saturday, Aug. 26 due to the Feast of Lanterns community event across the street. Please be careful driving on Brookside Ave. west of Rural on Saturday during the festival, as there will be pedestrians crossing over to get to the festivities.
• The 1st Annual LFD Pickleball Tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m.-finish at Lee Road Park, 6200 Lee Rd. in Lawrence. Entry is $50 per person or $100 per team; players must supply their own paddle but balls will be provided. Proceeds benefit the Hoosier Burn Camp. • The deadline for applying for Operation Back to School help from the Military Family Relief Fund is Aug. 31. Indiana veteran families experiencing financial hardship can apply for $500 per dependent child for back to school expenses (K-12). The student must live in the veteran’s home. • Bug Fest is Sunday, Aug. 27 from 1-5 p.m. at Southeastway Park, 5624 S. Carroll Rd. Admission is $10 per car, cash only or pre-register at www.indyparks.org. This is the 30th year for Bug Fest and the kids (and adults) love learning about the creepy-crawlies. There will be food trucks and concessions as well.
• The grand opening of the Bicentennial Unity Plaza, adjacent to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, will be held over the Aug. 24-27 weekend. The ribbon cutting will be Aug. 24 at 10 a.m., and there will be an Indiana Fever pre-game party from 5-7 p.m. On Friday, Aug. 25 from 5-9 p.m., there will be a Happy Hour with free small plates and cocktails for purchase. On Saturday, Aug. 26 from 5-10 p.m. there will be a Indy Night Market with farmers, restaurants, and more on the green. On Sunday, Aug. 27 from 1-3 p.m. there will be a Junior Hoops Clinic for kids ages 6-14 and from 1-5 there will be more activities for families. Gainbridge Fieldhouse is located at 125 S. Pennsylvania St. downtown.
• Greenfield has installed new crosswalk warning glashers and signal lights along the Pennsy at South SR9 and on New Road between SR9 and Franklin St. This is to help make these crossings safer for cyclists and pedestrians.
