INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Repertory Theater is overjoyed to welcome back the full original cast for The Paper Dreams of Harry Chin, which did not get the chance to open due to the pandemic in 2020. Joined by a talented group of designers, this highly-anticipated production will run April 20 – May 15 on the Upperstage — their first show in the space in more than two years. Part of this season’s INclusion Series celebrating diverse storytelling, this play is based on a true story of a man caught between two worlds and two families after he forged a new identity despite the US ban against Chinese immigrants. Join us in-person, or stream the show May 2 – May 15.
Despite the US ban against Chinese immigrants, Harry Chin forged a new identity to earn precious American dollars to send home to his starving village. Now he is trapped between two families and two worlds. Seasoned with magic and mystery, this hauntingly theatrical tale from our overlooked history considers the personal and political repercussions of making a group of people illegal.
