INDIANAPOLIS — Film historian Eric Grayson will screen the 1934 film It’s a Gift with W.C. Fields and Kathleen Howard on Sat., June 9, at 8 p.m. at the Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Dr. It will, as always, be preceded by a short selected by Grayson.
In the film, an unsuccessful grocer (Fields) has to contend with a nagging wife (Howard), destructive and rude customers, and loud, inconsiderate neighbors. When his rich uncle dies, he gets the chance of a lifetime to become an orange farmer in California. Grayson asks, Can he achieve his dream, or will it be dashed like so many of his other hopes?
This film, according to Grayson, “is often considered one of the greatest comedies ever made.”
