INDIANAPOLIS — WalkWays invites Indianapolis residents to take a walk with a series of events, intended to run through 2016 and beyond. WalkWays is the initiative to make Indianapolis more walkable and to get more people walking. It is a partnership of the City of Indianapolis, Marion County Public Health Department and members of the Health by Design coalition. The initiative also includes development of the city’s first pedestrian plan, which will be introduced to the Metropolitan Development Commission later this month.
The first walks are planned, but everything else is up to participants and the community at-large. Individuals and groups are welcome at the events, which are free and will be appropriate for people of all ages, abilities and physical activity levels.
Upcoming walks include the Cultural Trail on April 14 at noon (meet on northwest corner of Washington and Meridian streets), and a walk on April 20 at noon (meet at 222 E. Market St.).
