INDIANAPOLIS — Beginning April 3, work to renovate and expand the East Washington Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library, 2822 E. Washington St., will necessitate the branch’s closure until a nearby temporary facility can become operational to provide limited services for the duration of the seven-month construction project.
Constructed in 1910 as one of two remaining Carnegie libraries in Indianapolis and recently named to the National Register of Historic Places, the East Washington Branch is undergoing a $2.4 million renovation that includes a 2,220-square-foot northward expansion and interior updates to improve access and enhance services while maintaining the historical integrity of the branch.
Until a temporary facility opens within approximately one month, no services will be available at the East Washington location. Patrons requesting items for pickup at the East Washington Branch will have those re-routed for pickup to the nearby Irvington Branch, 5625 E. Washington Street.
In addition to the 22 other IndyPL locations throughout Marion County, the Library’s Web branch is available to serve patrons at www.indypl.org.
