Ice Cream Social Raises $5,500 for Girls, Inc.

INDIANAPOLIS — In honor of National Ice Cream Month, over 30 local celebrities plus event volunteers scooped giant sundaes on July 10 at the 26th annual Ice Cream Social on the Circle sponsored by American Dairy Association Indiana. In spite of some rain, ice cream lovers turned out on Monument Circle and helped raise $5,550 to benefit Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis.
Other highlights at the event included face painting, a Kaplan University photo booth, the Pacers Fan Van, Church Brothers Collision Repair/Indiana State Police Foundation robot car “Duke” the Safety Dog, music and a scavenger hunt courtesy of WZPL & 107.9 the Mix, and Molly and her calves – real live cows – from Purdue Dairy Sciences.
From August 7-23, the Dairy Association’s attention turns to the Indiana State Fair and its iconic Dairy Bar. All the traditional favorites will be on the menu – including the signature milkshakes and scrumptious grilled cheese sandwiches – along with two new items: a Muenster Grilled Cheese on Cinnamon Raisin Bread and a S’mores Milkshake.
The American Dairy Association Indiana also is bringing back “The Cheese Lady,” Sarah Kaufmann, to the State Fair. Kaufmann will carve over 1,400 pounds of Indiana cheese into a dairy cow masterpiece in a salute to The Year of the Farmer during the first several days of the event. Fairgoers will be able to watch her carve at the sculpture’s new location, the Purdue Extension Agriculture & Horticulture Building. The sculpture’s official unveiling will take place at noon on Wednesday, August 12, and it will be on display in the Ag/Hort Building for the remainder of the fair.
