• Congratulations to the following local schools for achieving Four Star ratings from the state: Cathedral HS, Franklin Central HS, Bunker Hill Elem., Union Elem., Herron HS, Calvary Christian, The Oaks Academy, Center for Inquiry II, Merle Sidener Gifted Academy, Eden Elem. • There will be a mural competition at the next Toast the Arts meeting for the Partnership for Lawrence (Lawrence Art Center) on April 24 at 5 p.m. at the Hillcrest Country Club. • The Hope Fund Spring Dinner will be held April 30 at 5 p.m. at the Legend Classic Cafe (5614 E. Washington St.). The dinner is an opportunity to support the work of Hope Counseling, a not-for-profit organization that provides counseling for the underserved. • The Temple Oak, a 400-year-old oak tree on the corner of Temple and Brookside on the near-eastside, is suffering from a Oak Lace Mite infestation and needs treatment. The tree is an icon of the Springdale neighborhood, and they don’t want to lose it, but it costs $8,000 to treat it. Contact the John H. •  On April 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Irvington Library, children of all ages and adults are invited as Blue, Butler University’s legendary bulldog mascot, comes to the Library to promote the book, “Good Boy, Blue!” written by Michael Kaltenmark and illustrated by Jingo de la Rosa. The author will join Blue for book signings and book sales courtesy of Bookmamas. This children’s book tells the story of Butler Blue’s first day on the job.
• Indianapolis Public Schools SUPER School 19 students have recently gotten a birds-eye view on learning. The sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at SUPER School on the southeast side  are part of the Civil Air Patrol’s Cadet Program. As part of the program students have a chance to fly in Cessna airplanes. The students have been flying out of Greenwood Airport in Greenwood, Indiana.
•  Eric Grayson will host Dixiana, a 1930 movie with Bebe Daniels and Wheeler and Woolsey, April 19 at 8 p.m. at the Garfield Park Arts Center. Comedians Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey were, in their day, at least as popular as the Marx Brothers. Admission is $5, and concessions are $1. There will be a short movie or cartoon before the main feature, and a Q & A after with Grayson. The center is at 2432 Conservatory Dr. in Garfield Park.
• The Stutz Artists Open House is Friday, April 25 (5:30-10:30pm) and Saturday, April 26 (2-7pm).  More than 70 artists will open their studios to visitors during the 2014 two-day event. It’s an opportunity to see the work of 70 local artists in one place at one time, and how the work is created. Artwork ranges from paintings, drawings and photography, to sculpture, jewelry and furniture. Tickets are available in advance online for $14 via EventBrite and at participating Central Indiana Old National Banking Centers for $10. Tickets will be $15 at the gate and kids age 12 and under are free with a paid adult.
