Applause!: Dec. 6-13

• Congratulations to Warren Central for winning the 6A title on Nov. 30. They have had an amazing year, and worked very hard to earn the title. Cathedral also won the 5A title over Westfield.
• Get your tickets early for Christmas Qarol Cabaret, Dec. 13 & 14 only, featuring Ben Asaykwee and Tiffanie Bridges doing your favorite holiday tunes, and many special guests. Shows are at 8 p.m. and tickets are available online at Brown Paper Tickets (www.brownpapertickets.com). This is a family friendly show.
• NESCO will be unveiling a public art sculpture in Fletcher Park, 1429 Brookside Ave., on Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. The pocket park is shaping up to be a wonderful asset to the near eastside community.
• The Irish Mutt will be a drop off point for WRTV 6 Toy Drive. Please bring an unwrapped toy for an infant to 12 year old to the Irish Mutt, 7041 E. 10th St.
• The Weekly View is a drop-off site for the Gaia Works Toy Drive. We are accepting new, unwrapped toys, stocking stuffers, gloves and hats to support Gaia Works, who provide help to needy local families and Coburn Place. Our office is at 195 N. Shortridge Rd.
• New Way Community Church invites anyone in need of clothing or small appliances to visit their Community Closet on the first Tuesday of each month, from 7-8 p.m. The church is located at 2301 E. Brookside Ave. If you would like to donate clothing, please contact the church at 721-1107.
• Beech Grove Parks Department is sponsoring a Visit with Santa, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Elton H. Geshwiler Senior Center, 602 E. Main St.
• Dec. 14 is going to be a busy day at the Garfield Park Arts Center. There will be an opening reception for the Arts Center’s student, faculty and staff exhibition from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and at the same time, a reception for the Historic Garfield Park photo and memorabilia exhibition. The shows run from Dec. 7- Jan. 11. The GPAC is located in Garfield Park, at 2432 Conservatory Dr.
• Thank you Paula Schmidt for taking over the huge task of organizing the Irvington Luminaria project. She’s working with the local merchants to offer bags, candles, and arranging for sand for the Dec. 22 Luminaria.
• Scottish Rite Cathedral is presenting an original dance production of “Littlest Angel.” on Dec. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. (Sat.). Tickets are $10. The historic cathedral is at 650 N. Meridian and is a treat to see in its own right.
• Don’t forget to visit Irvington for their 14th Annual Irvington Holiday Open House on Friday, December 6th from 5-9 p.m. This marks the beginning of the holiday season in Irvington, and goes along with the resounding theme of “Shop Local” for the holidays.
