From The Indianapolis Star, Sunday, March 2, 1913: The first woman, A. Elizabeth Todd, seeking to practice law in Marion County courts was admitted to the bar yesterday morning by Circuit Court Judge Charles Remster. It is understood that Mrs. Todd, wife of attorney George W. Todd, will assist her husband in practicing law when he opens an office here. She holds a certificate entitling her to practice law before the Tennessee Supreme Court and is a university graduate. The motion to admit her was made by attorney Samuel W. Huls. Judge Remster admitted Mrs. Todd under a decision of the Indiana Supreme Court, which was to the effect, that, while the Indiana Constitution says any “male” person may be admitted to practice in the courts, the admission of a woman is not prohibited.
