INDIANAPOLIS — Film historian Eric Grayson will screen the 1936 film, Things to Come, starring Raymond Massey and Cedric Hardwicke, at 8 p.m. on July 18, at the Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Drive. Novelist H.G. Wells wrote the screenplay for this prediction of what life would be like for the next 100 years.
The film predicts a war with Germany almost immediately, but it didn’t end until 1970. Then, there is an epidemic of disease and warmongering, followed by shimmering progress, and finally a moon expedition in 2036. Grayson will be showing the seldom-seen long version, which has only recently restored from a few remaining prints.
