From The Indianapolis Star, Thursday, May 13, 1915: Carl G. Fisher and Thomas Taggart, Indiana members of the Dixie Highway Commission, arrived in Indianapolis last night following two days of touring northern Indiana inspecting various routes for the proposed highway. After traveling from Indianapolis to South Bend, the pair covered more than 275 miles yesterday beginning their tour over an excellent macadam portion of the Lincoln Highway, a road also proposed by Fisher, from South Bend to LaPorte to Valparaiso to Dyer, and then on to Crown Point, Rensselaer, Lafayette and Lebanon. Scores of cities and towns desire to be included in the Dixie Highway that will lead from Miami, Florida to Chicago. Michigan boosters want to extend the highway to Mackinaw. Tomorrow the commissioners will look at routes in southern Indiana.
