From The Indianapolis Star, Monday, November 16, 1914: “A barrel of flour for a Belgian family,” is the slogan of The Star Belgian Flour Fund. Money is useless to Belgians in their present plight; there is no food to buy, it must come from outside the war zone. Five dollars (2013: $114.62) will buy a barrel of flour in this country that when shipped to Europe will sustain a Belgian family of five for two months. Contributions to The Star Belgian Flour Fund may be either in cash or in flour. Indianapolis millers are taking orders at the very low price made for Belgian relief and will see it is stored until the time for shipment to New York. As of yesterday, $1,239.68 (2013: $28,419.02) in cash has been collected and 145 barrels of flour have been donated.
