From The Indianapolis Star, Wednesday, February 12, 1913: School teacher suffragists have the privilege of seeking recruits among their sister teachers before and after school hours until the board of school commissioners can fix the exact political status of the Woman’s Franchise League. “Captains” representing the League have been appointed in each of the city schools to organize the teachers, but some teachers, saying that while they are suffragists, have complained about being asked their political beliefs. The board has a rule prohibiting all school employees from taking an active part in politics whether it is during school hours or not. In the meantime while the status of the League is under review, Superintendent Jacob G. Collicott insists that no soliciting, collecting, or propaganda work for any organization may occur during school hours.
