INDIANAPOLIS — As a part of the 10th and Rural infrastructure project, Citizens Energy Group has been reaching out to residents along the project boundaries to conduct lead service line replacement on private property. While Citizens has no active lead water mains, homes and businesses constructed and connected to the water system prior to 1950 may have lead water service lines. The water service line is the line that connects the main to the dwelling or building. The Lead Service Line Replacement Program is designed to replace customer-owned lead water service lines. If you have questions about the program, visit Citizens’ Web site, citizensenergygroup.com, and consult the map to determine if a particular property may be eligible for the program at no cost.
Citizens will begin work on moving the sanitary sewer lines starting mid-June with a portion of the waterline relocations in the street right-of-way beginning at the same time. The more significant utility relocations at the 10th and Rural intersection will begin around October 2026.
The City will also be working with contractors to remove underground storage tanks that exist on the vacant parcel at the northwest corner of 10th and Rural in July 2026. The vacant cell phone shop on the northwest corner will also be removed in the future.
The overall road construction project is anticipated to go to bid in late summer 2026 at this time.
