INDIANAPOLIS — The Eagle Creek Park Foundation is collecting entries on Sept. 6 and 7 for its 8th annual “Images of Nature” photography exhibit and competition at the park’s Earth Discovery Center, 5901 Delong Road.
The Riviera Camera Club presents the nature-based event on Sept. 20-28, which is open to all amateur and professional photographers who reside in Indiana.
Artists can enter up to three original photographs. All entries must be developed from negatives, transparencies or digital files, and contain natural settings, completely void of human existence. Photos including man-made features and influences like buildings, fences, boats, farm fields, domestic plants or animals will not be accepted.
Photos will be judged in six categories: Eagle Creek Park, Birds, Wild Animals, Landscapes, General Nature (including wildflowers and insects) and Creative.
Awards will be given for first, second, and third place, and honorable mention in each category, as well as one overall “Best in Show.” Judging will be based on impact, composition, technical merit, emotional appeal and presentation.
The entry fee is a non-refundable $30 per artist, and art can also be sold at this exhibit. A percentage of proceeds from sales will support the building of a new Earth Discovery Center geothermal educational pond, on behalf of the Eagle Creek Park Foundation. The pond will allow large school groups to dip net for frogs, tadpoles and aquatic insects to accompany school programming.
The event is free to the public with park admission, which is $5 per vehicle. Entry forms can be found on indy.gov/eaglecreek. For more information, call the Earth Discovery Center at 317-327-7148, or e-mail ehancock@iu.edu.
