INDIANA — Thirty-three states, including Indiana, have committed to rollout extra SNAP benefits in the summer of 2024. Summer EBT benefits will come in the form of pre-loaded cards that families can use to purchase groceries. Beginning in summer 2024, families will receive $40 per eligible child, per month. These benefits work together with other available FNS nutrition assistance programs, such as summer meal sites, SNAP, and WIC, to help ensure kids have consistent access to critical nutrition when school is out.
The USDA oversees 16 food and nutrition programs, including school breakfast and lunch programs, WIC and SNAP. Combined, their nutrition programs cover one in four Americans.
Participating families in SNAP, WIC, TANF or other approved programs with school-age children will have streamlined certification as well as families with certified students in a National School Lunch/School Breakfast school program.
Families at participating schools who aren’t certified can apply for the Summer EBT benefits but families not at non-participating schools cannot.
