INDIANAPOLIS — In June of 2020, the Indianapolis Community lost a great leader, philanthropist, and supporter of the arts, Christel DeHaan. Before her passing, DeHaan selected a specific group of Indianapolis nonprofits to apply for a legacy gift in her honor. The purpose of the legacy gifts is for Christel DeHaan’s legacy of philanthropy to live on in perpetuity, so the vibrant Indianapolis nonprofit community continues to thrive and grow.
ArtMix is the recipient of a significant gift to fund the Christel DeHaan Fellowship for Accessible Arts. Through this fellowship and training program, ArtMix will provide the following:
• Formal professional development training for all teaching artists focused on accessibility in the arts
• Expansion of the Creative Renewal Retreat program
• Scholarship/Fellowship opportunities for expanded training for ArtMix Teaching Artists and Staff
This gift will provide ArtMix with the opportunity to expand and evolve. By Fiscal Year 2025, ArtMix plans to open an accessible arts training program to artists and educators across the state to become the leading training program for the next generation of Hoosier artists who specialize in working with individuals with disabilities.
ArtMix received a grant of $570,000 from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help continue to make arts accessible to youth in Central Indiana.
The program is being funded through Lilly Endowment’s initiative, Strengthening Youth Programs in Indiana. ArtMix is one of 187 organizations receiving grants through Strengthening Youth Programs in Indiana.
