SHELBYVILLE — Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to expand and upgrade the former 44 Bowling Alley into a civic performance venue. If this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $50,000 by April 18, the project led by the Shelby County Players will receive a matching grant as part of IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.
The Shelby County Players purchased the former 44 Bowling Alley on Miller Ave. in Shelbyville in 2019 with the intention to make it their full-time performance space. The Players have been producing plays for over 30 years in various locations in the town. They have been using the former bowling alley as a rehearsal space and using part of it for office and storage.
Funds from this campaign will be used to build a stage in the lobby, provide light and sound equipment for the stage, create gallery space for local art displays and more.
