• The final Irvington Farmer’s Market will be held on Sunday, Oct. 9 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. Many artisans and non-profit vendors will be on hand as well produce marketers. It looks like it is going to be a beautiful autumn day, so come on out with the dogs and the kids!
• Congratulations to the Arsenal Tech boy’s soccer team for being named champs in Indianapolis with an undefeated season. They go on to compete in the state tournament. Tech competes in the 3A division. In addition, Beech Grove is competing in the 2A division, and will be moving forward to (hopefully) victory!
• Emerson Heights neighbors deserve a big round of applause for not giving in or giving up when they began reporting repeat gunfire in alleys behind their homes in September. Outside surveillance cameras recorded the vehicle in action, and this information and footage was provided to IMPD, along with detailed descriptions when citizens called 911. Working alongside officers and detectives, neighbors were able to pull the suspect vehicle over, and discovered a firearm in the possession of the driver, who was prohibited from owning a weapon. An arrest was made. Great work from everyone!
• The Irvington Historical Society will present the “Presenting Irvington Artists” exhibit reception on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Bonna Thompson Center, 5350 University Ave. Current Irvington and Irvington-connected artists will show their work in the galleries through Nov. 12.
• On Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m., the Genealogy Society of Marion County will present a free online and in-person at the GSMC Library, 9370 E. Washington St. on the “The Blanchard Family and the National Road.” Ron Darrah, GSMC Vice-President & Librarian is the speaker. After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
• There will be jazz at the Stage Door Theater, 5635 Bonna Ave. on Sunday, Oct. 9 from 3-5 p.m. The PostModern Jazz Quartet will be on hand to entertain. The event is free, but donations will be gladly accepted.
• Shepherd Community Center will host a mobile food pantry on Friday, Oct. 7 from 3-5 p.m. This will be a drive-through event. Anyone in need may stop by and receive food and grocery items. They will repeat this event on other Fridays: Oct. 21, Nov. 4, and Nov. 18 at the same times. Gleaners is sponsoring the pantry. Shepherd is located at 4107 E. Washington St.
• You must be registered to vote by Tuesday, Oct. 11. Check your registration status online at www.in.gov in the Secretary of State link. There is a general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8 with candidates for federal, state, and local positions.
