From The Indianapolis Star, Thursday, September 8, 1921: “Open House” will be held in all Indianapolis fire stations and police substations, as soon as plans are perfected, so that the public may understand fully the work and duties of the fire and police departments, according to an announcement made yesterday by the board of public safety. Inspection days will acquaint citizens with numerous changes in methods of fire and police protection which have placed the city in the highest rank. The idea of throwing stations open for public inspection is new to Indianapolis and, so far as is known, has not been tried in any other city. Present orders allow any person to inspect police or fire stations, but few have availed themselves of this opportunity. It is hoped setting aside regular inspection days will encourage citizen groups to visit.
