INDIANAPOLIS — Eight projects will be funded through the 2020 Indianapolis Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership, a program of the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW). Partner organizations will now work with Indy DPW project managers — even amid social distancing guidelines — to coordinate on design and construction details.
In November 2019, Indy DPW began accepting proposals from community-based organizations for infrastructure projects under a matching fund award program for the third year in a row. Funds were made available for improvement projects in the public right-of-way that would benefit all neighbors including, roads, sidewalks, multi-use paths and bridges.
The projects represent more than $3 million of investment in the neighborhoods of Indianapolis that have applied for the matching funds, with $1.68 million coming from DPW funds. Through the Indy Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership, the Department of Public Works is able to double the effective value of the tax dollars, increase the number of neighborhood and community-based projects and jump-start development that would not otherwise be possible.
Projects include some local neighborhoods:
• Friends of Holliday Park partnerships with DPW will enhance bike and pedestrian safety near and around the Blickman Trailhead in the park and along Arden Drive. The multi-use path will lead under the Meridian Street bridge, avoiding traffic at Arden Drive and Meridian Street.
• Lake Charlevoix Home Owners Association will receive DPW matching funds available via the HOA member dues to help repair streets. The work will include strip patching and some curb repair. The roads in this neighborhood, located near Fall Creek Road and Shadeland Avenue, have not been significantly repaired since they were built in 1988.
• Moss Creek of Indianapolis Homeowners Association will rebuild the 0.3-mile boulevard which serves as the main entrance and exit to the subdivision. The short road segment has not been repaired since it was built in 1991. This community is located in Perry Township, near East Edgewood Avenue and Gray Road.
• Westbrooke Home Owners Association: DPW will partner with this neighborhood of more than 100 homes to repair 12 locations where sidewalk panels are broken. This neighborhood is located near Southport Road and Shelbyville Road.
