Applause!: Oct. 4-10

• Come and kick off the Halloween season with a family-friendly theatrical witchy fashion show for charity— presented by the Irvington Black Hat Society. The Black Hat Strut is Sunday, October 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Irvington Lodge (5515 E. Washington St.). Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Advanced tickets are $20 available at Coal Yard Coffee (5547 Bonna Ave.), Hampton Designs Studio & Shop (5515 E. Washington St.) and eventbrite.com. Tickets are $25 at the door the day of the event. Refreshments by Lincoln Square and a cash bar with cider from Ash & Elm and a variety of wines.
• “Lady Spray” is back in Fountain Square, overlooking the intersection of Shelby, Prospect, and Virginia. The fountain was disassembled to repair it three months ago. Check it out next time you are in the neighborhood.
• Kemba Credit Union, the Magic Candle, and the Irving Theatre are all sponsors of Al’s Ghost Tours this year. They are wonderful businesses who deserve thanks for their continued support of the east side community.
• Hollywood Place is participating in the Great Indy Cleanup on Saturday, Oct. 5th. Volunteers are asked to gather in front of 4 Woodland Dr. just north of East Washington St. at 8 a.m. to help clean the sidewalks and gutters on Gale St., Woodland Dr. and Ewing St. between E. Washington St. and E. Ohio St.
• The Robson-Voorhees Neighbors Association will meet Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Minnie Hartmann Center – enter on the Robson side.
• Children ages 6 and up are invited to join Art With a Heart to explore the art of finger knitting on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Beech Grove Branch on Main St. Yarn made from t-shirts will be used to make a scarf to keep or give to a friend. The session will also focus on how to creatively re-use t-shirts. Participants will also receive a booklet with project ideas.
• All Indianapolis Public Library locations will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14, for their annual day of staff recognition. The website with thousands of downloadable and streaming books, audiobooks, magazines and movies, remains open. As always, you can renew your materials online, over the phone at 317-269-5222, or return them to any library location’s drop box.
• Community Heights Neighborhood Association will have a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at Paramount Community Heights, 1525 N. Ritter) to discuss neighborhood topics, as well as a proposal to redevelop the property on the northeast corner of Ritter and 16th. The proposal is to turn the property into a Class A medical office building. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and ask questions.
• FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic will hold the 5th Annual Mutt Cup Cocktail Competition on Monday, October 7th to benefit its lifesaving work.  The Mutt Cup is an annual craft cocktail competition featuring several of Indy’s best bartenders. Each year, top mixologists submit cocktails to be judged by a panel of local experts and the event attendees. They compete for the Judges and People’s Choice Awards. This annual event includes a spectacular silent auction and a Whiskey Fetch (like a Wine Pull, but with bottles of spirits!). The event will be held at Tinker House Events. 1101 East 16th St. Tickets are $75 for VIP, General Admission is $55, and designated drivers are $35. Tickets are available online at facespayneuter.org
