INDIANAPOLIS — The Butler-Tarkington will be the City’s ‘Neighborhood of the Month’ for May, 2018. The Neighborhood of the Month initiative highlights an Indianapolis community each month, working to engage local groups and promote projects by various City departments.
Butler-Tarkington, north of downtown Indianapolis, will see the first round of streetlight conversions as phase two of Mayor Hogsett’s “Operation Night Light” initiative kicks off. The initiative will retrofit the 27,000 City-funded streetlights to energy-efficient LED technology, allowing for the installation of up to 4,000 new lights on Indianapolis’ streets.
With the recent renovation of Tarkington Park, Butler-Tarkington is attracting residents from all reaches of Indianapolis. The selection of Maple Crossing – within the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood – as a “Great Places 2020” area opens the gates to more possibilities of development within the neighborhood.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to use the hashtag #IndyNoM when posting on social media about Butler-Tarkington during the month of May. To nominate a neighborhood for Neighborhood of the Month visit: indy.gov/NoM.
