• The Quilters Guild of Indianapolis’ south side satellite location will meet on Thurs., May 24 at 12:30 p.m. at Friedens United Church of Christ, 8300 S. Meridian St. There will be a behind-the-scenes presentation by Ken Gamache of Rhode Island on how printed fabric is made and how fabric is designed. All quilters are welcome to attend.
• U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Thomas Montgomery will speak at the Indiana War Memorial on Armed Forces Day, Sat., May 19 to provide an inside look into his experiences commanding the U.S. military in 1993 Somalia and the action which inspired the critically-acclaimed film Black Hawk Down. The program is free on an RSVP basis, minimum donations of $10 are encouraged. The evening is scheduled from 6 – 9 p.m. Hors d‘oeuvres will be provided by the Armed Forces Day Coordinating Council of Indianapolis free of charge and a cash bar will be open for business. • Fridays at the Fort in Lawrence begins May 25 and runs throughout the summer in the Civic Plaza, 9230 Memorial Park Dr. There will be live music, food, a kids zone with activities, a beer tent, and much more.
• The Eiteljorg Museum is currently hosting a beautiful exhibit of Native American baskets, Interwoven. The works are primarily the work of women artists, using traditional materials and techniques. The work remains through Aug. 5. The Eiteljorg is located at 500 W. Washington St. downtown. General admission tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $8 for youth 5-17. • The final public community meeting regarding the proposed Land Use Plan updates will take place at the Warren Education and Community Center, 975 N Post Rd., Room 113, on May 24 at 5:30 p.m.
• The Pacers Bikeshare program will expand next year, adding about 250 bikes, and 25 more stations. The expansion will include at least one eastside station on the furthest reach of Mass Ave. The program is federally funded, as well as receiving a matching grant from the Herbert Simon Family Foundation. Pacers Bikeshare will launch a business partnership program for business and property owners who want a station on or near their place of business. • With vacation season starting, law enforcement would like to remind people to NOT share their vacation plans on social media, even in closed neighborhood groups. Thieves look for posts like “who can watch my pets between June 10 and 17 while I go on vacation?” They can easily find your home and target you for burglaries.
