INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) is launching a new program with the help of Friends of Indianapolis Animal Care Services Foundation, Inc., empowering Indianapolis pet owners to responsibly care for their companion animals.
Indy CARES (Companion Animal Resources, Education, and Support) was created by a group of dedicated IACS staff who saw the need to do more for residents forced to give up their pets due to various hardships. Indy CARES aims to partner with them to put the resources available in the hands of those in need. In 2017, IACS took in 3,887 owner surrendered cats and dogs, mainly due to medical, behavior, housing, or the cost of care. This program will work to reduce the number of animals surrendered to the shelter by providing pet owners with alternatives.
